Cricket South Africa and Sussex will be anxiously awaiting the results of a scan on seamer Vernon Philander’s injured groin.
Philander was unable to take the field for Sussex in their ongoing County Championship match against Kent and will travel to London to undergo scans.
Cricket South Africa have been eager to ensure their quick bowlers, in particular, are fully fit for the upcoming tour to England which will also include the Champions Trophy.
It is a possibility that the CSA will take a very active role in determining what part, if any, Philander plays in Sussex's bid for promotion from Division 2 of the County Championship.
Kent were not allowed to go ahead with a deal for young seamer Duanne Olivier to play in the County Championship but were instead given the go ahead to sign allrounder Wayne Parnell who is playing against Philander's Sussex at the moment.
The Proteas have Dale Steyn nearing full fitness once again having suffered a shoulder injury in Australia while quicks Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada are turning out in the IPL with the former playing a big role for the Delhi Daredevils while his franchise and Proteas teammate has been sitting on the sidelines which will likely please management.
Steyn has intimated that he could join up with the South Africa A tour to England which gets underway before the Proteas tour.
Openers Stephen Cook (Durham) and Dean Elgar (Somerset) are also playing in England ahead of the tour.
