Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur has heaped heavy praise on batsman Babar Azam, comparing him to India superstar Virat Kohli in light of his recent form.
Azam scored three centuries in a row in the ODI series against the West Indies in October, and added a 90 not out in the recent Tests against New Zealand.
Pakistan lost that series, and must now face Australia, and Arthur hopes Azam will be able to carry his Kohli-like form across the Tasman Sea.
Arthur told Perth's 6PR radio: "He (Azam) is a young gun who will be an exceptional player.
"I'll go so far as to say, at the same age, I reckon he's as good as Virat Kohli, which I know that's high praise but he's right up there."
The former Australia coach will come up against that side for the first time since being sacked three years ago, and he feels his players will be up to the task, especially as the Aussies lost their most recent series as well.
He added: "Had that (New Zealand) series gone another Test match, we would have been better for the conditions.
"Hopefully, this has put us in good stead for what we can experience in Australia."
