From playgrounds all around the world to international cricket stadiums, mothers cop a lot of stick when boys and men take the mickey out of each other.
In a far cry from Wahab Riaz quip about Jonathan Trott's mum knowing all about match-fixing, India's players have paid tribute to their mothers in the fifth ODI against New Zealand.
All the India players have had their mothers names printed on their India team shirts in a move initiated by media giant Star India to pay tribute to the work of mothers.
The Board of Cricket Control in India Chairman Anurag Thakur said: "This was done with the intent to thank all the mothers for their efforts and sacrifices.”
India and New Zealand have pushed each other all the way in this series and the fifth and final match will decide the series on Saturday.
