Maxwell frustrated with lack of T20 match practice

Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell says he is frustrated that the Aussies have not played more T20 international games in the lead up to the World T20 in India next month.

The Aussies had a three-match series against India at home in January, played with a relatively inexperienced team, and will play three games in South Africa on their way to the global tournament.

The World T20 is the only major trophy that Australia have not won but it has still has not been a priority for the Cricket Australia, with the selectors deciding to rest players when the shortest format comes around.

Maxwell said: "I played in the Big Bash so I got my T20 practice there, so it's not too bad. But the guys that don't have that, that have played in the Tests, some have only played one or two T20s this year.

"I can understand how some of the guys in the squad might be a little bit frustrated how they haven't had their T20 opportunities, especially at international level that they would have liked heading into this tournament but it's something you've just got to deal with.

"If you're not playing regular T20 international cricket, it makes it hard to understand what your best team is, how you play together as a team and I think that's something we probably haven't done a lot of over the last couple of years.

"We've had a lot of players come through and make a debut and not have to play another T20 for another year or so, so it would be nice to play more T20 international cricket leading up to obviously a major tournament."
