The Australia selectors have decided that seamer Josh Hazlewood will miss the rest of the ODI series against India as well as the three T20s that will follow against the same opponents.
The 25 year-old Hazlewood played in Australia's five-wicket victory in the first ODI against the Asian side but sat out the second match in the five-match series on Friday in Brisbane, which the Aussies also won.
The right-arm bowler is being rested as Australia will want him fit and firing for their tour to New Zealand next month, which includes both Tests and ODIs.
Australia coach Darren Lehmann said after the victory at the Gabba: "Josh has played all six Tests this summer and has had a high workload.
"On that basis the decision has been made to give him a break to allow him to recharge both physically and mentally ahead of the tour of New Zealand.
"We regard it as sensible management of the player and it is an approach that we have adopted successfully in Australian cricket over a significant period of time, especially in the one-day format."
John Hastings, who came into the squad as cover for allrounder Mitchell Marsh will now stay with the team for the remainder of the series.
