Alistair Overeem will face upcoming prospect Curtis Blaydes at UFC 225 on June 9 in Chicago, the UFC has confirmed.
UFC veteran Overeem last saw action in December when he lost on a first knockout to Francis Ngannou at UFC 218.
The loss cost Overeem the chance of a title rematch with reigning heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. Overeem, 37, had won six of his last seven bouts before the defeat to Ngannou.
Blaydes, is unbeaten in his last five meanwhile, although his victory over Adam Milstead in February last year was overturned after he tested positive for marijuana.
The Chicago native’s reward for the biggest result of his career, a unanimous decision win over Mark Hunt at UFC 221 last month in Perth, Australia, is a shot at Overeem in his hometown.

UFC 225 does not yet have a main event. Other fights on the card include the women’s strawweight fight between former champion Carla Esparza and Claudia Gadelha and a flyweight contest between Sergio Pettis and the returning Joseph Benavidez, who last fought in December 2016.
