Despite throwing everything he had at Maia in their welterweight fight, LaFare struggled to deal with Maia's take downs.
Speaking about the fight, LaFlare admitted that his plan of going for the kill right away backfired big time.
"I tried to neutralize him, and I got tired a little bit in the first," LaFlare is quoted as saying by ESPN. "I wasn't as explosive as I normally am or trained to be. I figured I would get him tired. But Demian is extremely good on the ground.
"I was a little bit too soon, too late. I couldn't get it going, and it took me until the fifth round, when he already had a few rounds on me by then, and he was able to sit back."
