Daniel Cormier will put his light heavyweight title on the line against Volkan Oezdemir in January, the UFC have confirmed.
Cormier will face the big-hitting Oezdemir at UFC 220, in Boston, on January 20 in his first defence of the belt since the title was restored to him. The 38-year-old lost the strap to Jon Jones last July, before the then champion was flagged for a drugs violation.
The clash against Oezdemir had been in question after the Swiss fighter was arrested and charged with aggravated battery in Florida.

But UFC president Dana White insisted that arrest wouldn’t affect the title fight and that has proved to be the case.
Cormer said: “I’m excited to get back in there. I’m excited to get this stain off me, to go out there and put on just a classic Daniel Cormier performance where I drown him and I smother him and I just take this dude out. I’m excited. I’m pumped.”

Oezdemir faces his first title opportunity, but will be looking to cement his reputation as one of UFC’s rising stars after first round knockouts over Jimi Manuwa and Misha Cirkunov in his last two fights.
