Woodley taking one step at a time

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is not looking past his UFC 214 clash with Demian Maia.

There has been much talk about the return of UFC star Georges St-Pierre and UFC boss Dana White has indicated that the Canadian will face the winner of Saturday’s title fight.

While Woodley is the favourite to successfully defend his title for a third time, the American is not counting his chickens just yet…

“At the end of the day that’s what happens when fighters are looking too far down the road…you get your ass whooped,” quipped the 35-year-old on MMA Junkie.

“You think about Georges St-Pierre – I got Demian Maia, who is on a seven-fight win streak. Everybody who has a great answer – ‘just don’t let him take you down’ – he still takes them down and gets on their back and beats them. So with that said, it’s not in stone. I’ve never seen a bout agreement.”

Despite White’s words, Woodley revealed that a clash with GSP is not guaranteed, as he is yet to hear from his camp.

“Georges St-Pierre hasn’t communicated to me or my management team that we’re fighting next,” continued Woodley.

“So with that said, a victory against Demian Maia, that opens doors for everything else. In defeat, there’s no Georges St-Pierre, there’s no Nick Diaz, there’s no other fight after that. So, for all you guys, I really don’t want to talk about Georges.

“I don’t want to talk about Conor (McGregor), Floyd (Mayweather) or (expletive) Georges St-Pierre. I’m just being real.”
