Chris Weidman got his UFC career back on track on Saturday evening with a win as he defeated Kelvin Gastelum via an arm triangle choke in the third round of their fight in Uniondale, New York.
Hometown favourite Weidman got the win after 3:45 of round two to snap a three-fight losing streak.
After a cagey start, Weidman took control of the fight and wrestled his opponent to the canvas, although Gastelum eventually managed to break free and drop Weidman with a big left near the end of the round as Weidman just managed to survive.
But that was as good as it got for Gastelum as Weidman used his wrestling prowess in the second round to control Gastelum, before he eventually wrapped him up in the third round and finished him off with an arm triangle.
It was an impressive showing from the former middleweight champion and puts him firmly back in the mix. He immediately went on the offensive, calling out current champion Michael Bisping in his post-fight interview.”
“That British bum who is crying in his freaking house right now: I’m back, baby,” Weidman said. “I’m back. What’s up? Stop hiding from the real men. Let’s go, baby. I’m the champ and everyone knows it.”
