White: McGregor wants Nurmagomedov in Russia

UFC boss Dana White revealed that Conor McGregor is keen on a superfight with Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia.

It would be the first UFC event in Russia if the fight were to go through and given Nurmagomedov’s huge following in his homeland, it would be quite the spectacle.

“You know what Conor told me? He said, ‘I want Khabib in Russia,'” White told MMAjunkie.

“Isn’t he (expletive) awesome? He’s like, ‘I want Khabib, in Russia.’ He’s awesome. Conor McGregor is a (expletive) unicorn. There’s nothing like him. He’s working on boxing Floyd Mayweather and then he’s talking about fighting Khabib in Russia right after.”

However, there are some kinks to work out. Firstly, Nurmagomedov – who is unbeaten after 24 fights – has pulled out three times when pitted against Tony Ferguson. Surely this is a fight that needs to happen, which means Nurmagomedov actually has to be fit, healthy and make weight.

Secondly, the logistics around Russia hosting a UFC event will no doubt also be a headache for White, but he is excited about the prospect nonetheless.

The UFC supremo wasn’t done yet, as he poured out more praise for the brands biggest cash cow.

“Those are the kind of things that make that kid a (expletive) superstar,” White said of McGregor.

“I’ve got guys telling me, ‘I don’t want to (expletive) – I don’t want to fight this guy, and I don’t want to do this.’ (Conor says), ‘I want Floyd Mayweather then I want (expletive) Khabib in Russia.’ How do you not love him? How do you not love Conor McGregor? Amazing.”
