White lays into UFC referee after controversial call

UFC boss Dana White is furious with UFC referee Mario Yamasaki following his decision to stop UFC Fight Night 112’s headliner early.

In a grudge match featuring Kevin Lee and Michael Chiesa in Oklahoma City, Lee sunk in a rear-naked choke near the end of the opening round and was surely just seconds away from either making his opponent tap or putting him to sleep.

Referee Yamasaki – who has plied his trade for a decade – intervened before either could happen, declaring a win for Lee via submission.

Chiesa immediately appealed the call – and may well still appeal the result – quite rightly pointing out that he didn’t tap.

Now, Chiesa is asking for a re-match while Lee believes he’s earned a shot against UFC enigma Khabib Nurmagomedov – all of which translates to a bit of a headache for White.

That, and Yamasaki’s poor call caused White to launch a verbal barrage…
