The UFC have confirmed that Jimi Manuwa will face fellow rising star Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 214.
Both Manuwa and Oezdemir have been clawing their way into light-heavyweight title contention after a series of impressive displays and will now get the chance to lock horns on the undercard of Daniel Cormier’s showdown against Jon Jones.
UFC president Dana White has been eager to have a big bout on the card in case the light-heavyweight title clash between Cormier and Jones falls through, and officials confirmed on Wednesday that Manuwa will take on Oezdemir on July 29, in California.
Manuwa has recorded two back-to-back knock-out wins over Ovince Saint Preux and Corey Anderson, before moving further into the spotlight by engaging in a war of words with Cormier.
The British fighter was then at ringside at UFC Fight Night in Sweden last weekend to see Oezdemir crush highly-rated prospect Misha Cirkunov in just 28 seconds.

After the bout, Oezdemir stressed that he wanted to face Manuwa, amidst speculation that they could be paired together at UFC 214.
Oezdemir said: “There is so much high name, big name, but I also want to test my striking skills. Maybe that could be Jimi Manuwa.”
