Hunt was a bloody mess by the time referee John Sharp ended the bout midway through the fifth round at UFC Fight Night 65, which was held in Adelaide on Sunday.
Despite the New Zealander taking hit after hit, he continued to rise to his feet and fight on. However, in the end, Miocic was just too much for Hunt to handle and the 41-year-old congratulated his opponent for winning the fight.
"The old warhorse got beaten up sorry was to tired big mistake to be tired wen u facing the top end congrats stipe well done mate thanks for everyone's support," Hunt wrote on his Facebook page
Many pundits believe that the bout should have been stopped in the third round and that the referee should not have let Hunt carry on fighting after being battered left and right.
For his part, Miocic has said that he was determined to win the fight and continued throwing punch after punch until he was officially declared the winner.
"I saw that I was winning and I was going to keep going forward until they stopped the fight or I got the decision," Miocic said after the fight. "I didn't care. Of course, I was looking for the finish, there was no question.
"I felt like I got it in the early rounds, but he's a tough guy. That's why the ref let it go as long as he did. But I was going to keep digging and digging and they stopped it, which is fine."
