Khabib Nurmagomedov has confirmed that he has agreed to take on Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 on March 4 in Las Vegas.
Nurmagomedov has yet to be beaten in his MMA career and is fast establishing himself as one of the top fighters in the lightweight division.
Having given the green light to fight at UFC 209, Nurmagomedov revealed that he is not waiting to see whether Ferguson will accept the challenge.
“UFC asked me about this fight (with Ferguson), March 4, UFC 209, and I said yes, I want to fight this,” Nurmagomedov told RT Sport. “I want to take this fight. I want to fight with Tony and we, everybody, my team, are waiting for his answer.
“I think this is a real high-level fight in the lightweight division right now. I think UFC before never made this kind of fight because nine win streak versus eight win streak, this has never happened before. Inside UFC this has never happened. I think this is a very big fight. Everybody wants to watch this fight and I want to take this fight.”
Should the fight go ahead, Nurmagomedov will be coming into the bout on the back of a submission win over Michael Johnson at UFC 205 in November, while Ferguson defeated former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision in his most recent fight at UFC Fight Night 98 on November 5.
