Miocic: I would love to fight in New York

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has revealed that he would love the opportunity to fight in New York.

UFC 205 will take place at Madison Square Garden on Saturday and Miocic admitted that he wished he were on the card for the event.

When asked if he would pick fighting in New York or in front of his fans in Cleveland, Miocic told MMAjunkie: “I choose MSG first. Because then I’ll win again there and then the next will be in Cleveland. It’s amazing, some of the best boxing matches ever were there. It’s an amazing place.”

UFC 205 will have plenty of action across all the divisions, but Miocic admitted that it’s hard not to be excited about the lightweight title fight between champion Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor.

McGregor, who is the reigning featherweight champion, has a chance to make history in New York as he will become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles at the same time if he beats Alvarez.

“I’m not a picker – I don’t choose guys,” Miocic said when questioned about his thoughts on who would come out on top. “But it’s going to be an amazing fight. Eddie Alvarez – the guy grinds, he’s a tough guy, he finds a way to win every time, has a great gameplan and it works.

“And Conor McGregor, a guy who times his moves well, he’s really smart at what he does, he knows how to pick shots. It’s an interesting fight, I can’t wait to watch it.”

As for the heavyweight bout between former champions Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez, Miocic said that it will be too close to call.

“It’s a tough call,” Miocic said. “We’ve got Cain, who’s coming back strong, he looked amazing in his last fight, wants a shot at the title. Werdum is Werdum, he’s fought the best in the world and beat the best in the world. So it’s an interesting fight, I think whoever implements their gameplan the best is going to win.

“Whoever it is, I match up very well with both of them. So I don’t care who it is and where do I sign?”
