Phillipe Nover is determined to secure a quick victory over former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao at UFC Fight Night 95 in Brasilia on Saturday.
Nover will come into the fight on the back of a split decision loss to Zubaira Tukhugov in December 2015 and is determined to ensure his bout with Barao doesn’t go the distance.
Despite Barao being on a two-fight losing streak, Nover is refusing to underestimate his opponent as the Brazilian was bantamweight champion for nearly two years and will be fighting on home soil.
“I believe I’m gonna get a finish, I don’t wanna go to the judges, because I think it’s always a risk,” he said. “So I will need to finish or be pretty dominant.”
Nover also believes that his bout with Barao provides him with a golden opportunity to showcase his talent and proof that he has what it takes to beat a former UFC champion.
“I see this as the biggest opportunity of my career,” he said. “Fighting a former World Champion, with so many accomplishments, will be a true test for me and I believe that I shine best when the odds are against me. So I think this will raise me up to where I need to be in the division.”
