Eddie Alvarez sees no reason why he cannot beat Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 on July 7 and be crowned the new UFC lightweight champion.
Alvarez earned his title shot following split decision wins over Gilbert Melendez and former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.
With the 32-year-old having been given an opportunity to fight for the title, he made it clear that he intends to walk away victorious.
“I’ve been fighting for 13 years and to get this title shot is something I’ve always been aiming for,” he told reporters. “I’ve thought about being in this situation for a long, long time, and those thoughts provoked a lot of actions that provoked a lot of habits. Now it’s finally happening.”
Beating Dos Anjos will be a lot easier said than done though as the 31-year-old is on a five-fight winning streak and won his most recent bout against Donald Cerrone in just 66 seconds.
Despite this, Alvarez believes that he can get the better of Dos Anjos and says he will take the attack to the champion right from the get-go.
“It’s going to get done violently,” he said. “It’s going to be fought at a really high pace.”
