Anthony Pettis recently decided to drop down to the featherweight division and will make his debut against Charles Oliveira at UFC on FOX 21 on August 27 in Vancouver, Canada.
The former lightweight champion has gone through a downward spiral ever since he lost his title to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185 in March last year.
Following that loss to Dos Anjos, Pettis was beaten by Eddie Alvarez via a split decision at UFC Fight Night 81 in January this year. To make things worse, Edson Barboza handed Pettis his third consecutive loss when he defeated him by unanimous decision at UFC 197 in April.
With Pettis having endured a highly surprising rough patch in the lightweight division, he made the decision to move down and test the waters in the featherweight division.
Pettis will be looking to snap his three-fight losing streak, but it will be easier said than done, considering that Oliveira will be heading into the fight having won five out of his last six fights. Oliveira’s most recent victory came against Myles Jury, who he beat by submission in the first round at UFC on FOX 17 in December last year.
