Tempers flare at UFC 199 weigh-ins

The UFC 199 public “weigh-ins” made for fantastic viewing, as the fighters in Saturday’s main and co-main events were involved in some heated stare-downs.

“This is the dude I can’t wait to beat up,” bantamweight title challenger Urijah Faber said moments after champion Dominick Cruz had threatened to punch him while the UFC’s promoter stood between the two fighters.

“It’s going to happen. We’re one day away from punching him in his smug face.”

After the two bantamweights had a go at each other, it was the turn of headliners Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold, who are contesting the middleweight title.

Both fighters stripped down, and pretended to weigh in, but then proceeded to get in each other’s faces.

First, Bisping jabbed Rockhold in the gut and after a melee of a few seconds, the UFC promoter and others had to step in to separate the two fighters.

“There is not a single person in the world that I’d rather take the belt off than this smug mother [expletive] right here,” Bisping told UFC analyst Joe Rogan afterwards.

“It just fuels the fire. I’m excited for this fight,” he countered.

“There’s levels to this game. He didn’t get the message the last time (when Rockhold submitted Bisping in 2014). It’s time to penetrate that thick skull and make him realize that his true destiny is behind the desk [as a television commentator].”

If the pre-fight shenanigans are anything to go by, UFC 199 is bound to be a cracker.
