Johnson too good for Dodson

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson won his rematch against John Dodson via a unanimous decision in the UFC 191 main event at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

In their first bout in January 2013, Dodson gave Johnson a tough time knocking him down to the canvas three times but lost that fight as he appeared to run out of steam to hand his opponent the win.

This time around though it was a very improved Johnson, who was clearly the better fighter on the night and was rarely challenged in getting a unanimous decision, with a pair of 49-46s and a 50-45.

From the word go in the opening round, Johnson used his speed and footwork to unsettle Dodson.

And in the early round while Dodson prevented any takedown moves by Johnson he took a lot of hard punches while doing so.

In the second round, things were a lot closer but Johnson was never in any danger.

In the third round, Johnson stepped things up landing straight rights and elbows to the face which knocked the wind out of Dodson, who was breathing heavily.

After that Johnson cruised to the win throwing random shots that hit their spot carrying him through to a comfortable title defence.

The win was Johnson’s eighth straight win and is 12-1-1 in his past 14. Dodson (17-7) had his three-fight win streak broken.
