‘Floyd will be debilitated inside of one round’

Floyd Mayweather Jr may fancy his chances if he comes up against Conor McGregor in a mixed martial arts battle, but UFC commentator Joe Rogan doesn’t give him much hope.

It appears that Mayweather’s ego may lead him into a super-fight with McGregor, with the undefeated boxer backing himself to show all-round fighting skills.

Both fighters have been playing up the potential bout, with Mayweather telling Fight Hype before Saturday’s fight in Las Vegas between Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan that: “It’s possible. It’s possible. There was a name that was shot at me. But the rumors that y’all have been hearing (are) the rumors I started.

“It may not be a rumor. Keep your fingers crossed. It may be a boxer versus an MMA fighter. So we just don’t know.”

McGregor then took to Twitter to post an image of the two fights facing off with the caption: ‘MMA Vs Boxing’.

While there is still much to be said and done before such a fight may take place, Rogan is of little doubt that Mayweather will be very much out of his depth in MMA.

“If Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight in MMA, Conor McGregor will f*** him up,” Rogan said in his podcast. “He will f*** him up. Floyd will get the s*** kicked out of him. He will kick his body senseless. He will kick his legs. Floyd will be debilitated inside of one round, 100 per cent. And if Conor decides to take him to the ground, I guarantee you … Floyd Mayweather cannot stop him from taking him to the ground. And if Conor gets him to the ground, he’s going to mount him and cave his f***ing face in, or choke him, or break his arm, or do whatever he wants to do.”

However, Rogan believes that should McGregor, who has notched up 17 knockouts in 22 fights, decided to beat Mayweather at his own game, the Irishman is unlikely to triumph.

“But, in a boxing match, I can’t imagine a world where Floyd Mayweather doesn’t f*** (McGregor) up. I think Floyd Mayweather is arguably the greatest boxer of all time. If you look at his accomplishments, who he’s been able to beat, how he shuts everyone’s offence down …

“He’s just so much better. And if people don’t know, if you think you’re really good and then you get in there and box a guy like that, he will f***ing expose the s*** out of you. He will expose the s*** out of you. It’s a different animal, man.”
