White laughs off Mcgregor-Mayweather rumour

UFC boss Dana White has dismissed the rumour that Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring with now-retired legendary pugilist Floyd Mayweather Jr.

On Friday, several publications reported that the UFC star and the unbeaten boxing great Mayweather have agreed terms over a potential superfight later this year.

White, though, had to doubts that the rumoured fight was nothing but speculation created by tabloids.

“It’s not true; it’s just a tabloid story,” White told Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports.

“And as far as I knew, Floyd is retired and he’s been on a world-wide vacation and hasn’t even been thinking of fighting.”

The McGregor-Mayweather rumour isn’t the first instance of exponents of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and renowned boxers being linked with a potential meeting.

MMA legend Anderson Silva has been suggested as a possible opponent for boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. while reigning heavyweight champion boxer Tyson Fury has previously expressed his desire to step into the ring with Cain Velasquez.
