Jose Aldo has vowed to regain his featherweight title should he get the opportunity to face champion Conor McGregor again.
Aldo must first defeat Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 on July 9 and win the interim title before he will be granted a rematch with McGregor.
The Brazilian has been eager to get his hands on McGregor after the Irishman ended his five-year reign as champion in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 on December 12.
“I think I should have had a rematch, but they put Frankie now, so we’re going to fight Frankie first,” he told reporters. “But I’m going to get that belt back. This is just a setback. I’m going to get my belt back. I’m going to beat Conor.”
Aldo also made it clear that McGregor got lucky at UFC 194 and added that should they step foot in the Octagon again, the outcome of the bout will be very different.
“In my opinion, I’m still the champ,” he said.
