UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has insisted that she did not turn down the prospect of facing Holly Holm in a rematch.
Tate defeated Holm via submission in the fifth round of their bout at UFC 196 last month to be crowned champion.
After her loss, Holm wanted a rematch in order to regain her title, but the UFC decided to make Tate’s first title defence against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 on July 9.
While Holm was disappointed to have been snubbed, Tate reiterated that she didn’t have a choice on who she faced after she won the title in March.
To make matters worse for Holm, Tate is scheduled to face Ronda Rousey after her bout with Nunes, which means that the 34-year-old will have to wait a lengthy period of time before she can get her hands on Tate again.
