Former champion Mir flagged by USADA

UFC fans might have seen the last of Frank Mir after the former heavyweight champion became the latest fighter to flagged for a possible U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation.

Mir's positive test stems from samples taken following his walk-off KO loss to Mark Hunt at UFC Brisbane last month, a result which dropped the two-time champion to 2-6 in his last eight fights.

After the result of the test was made known, the UFC released the following statement on the matter:

"The UFC organization was notified today that USADA has informed Frank Mir of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an in-competition sample collected the day of his fight on March 20, 2016 in Brisbane, Australia.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Mir. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.

Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward."

At this stage it remains unclear which substance Mir (18-11) tested positive for, and the punishment for a first-time offence is a suspension of two years.

Subsequently, Mir has also been removed as an analyst for this weekend's event, UFC Fight Night: Dos Santos vs. Rothwell.

Mir, meanwhile, denied any wrong-doing, and have asked his fans to stay patient while all the facts are gathered.

"To all my fans and supporters, I recently have been notified by USADA that the test I took on the night of the fight came back positive for a substance that I did not take," Mir wrote on a his official Facebook page.

"I don't know how that is possible as I did not take any performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) to compete. I have never tested positive for a banned substance since joining the UFC and becoming a 2x champion. I ask all of you to hold judgment against me until all the facts have been revealed."
