Cormier defeats Gustafsson at UFC 192

Light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier defended his title at UFC 192 against Alexander Gustafsson in a close split decision on Saturday night at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

The champion had to fend off numerous takedowns from Gustafsson including a third round knockdown to fight back and get the win in five rounds.

In the fight, Cormier took a lot of punishment, more than in any of his previous bouts and afterwards he thanked his opponent for forcing him to pull out all the stops to defend his title.

Gustafsson (16-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) made the champion stand and slug it out in a brutal fight. But in the end, Cormier’s (17-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) grit and determination got him the decision.

Cormier scored 48-47 and 49-46 from two judges while Gustafsson got 48-47 by the third judge.
