Hunt: Mir ‘wasn’t there’ anymore

While some feel Saturday night’s main event at UFC Fight Night 85 between Mark Hunt and Frank Mir was ended prematurely, Hunt believes it wasn’t a moment too soon.

The 41-year-old Hunt is well known for stopping fights with a single blow, and believes he saw something in Mir that signalled the end.

“Frank, he was still in the dark lands when I saw him [after landing the punch],” Hunt said during the post-fight press conference.

“His face was still…he wasn’t there, so I just left it. He wasn’t there. He was out, somewhere else.”

After some laughter from those in attendance, he added: “Well, it’s true. He wasn’t there. He was blacked out.”

Having dispatched Mir, Hunt believes he is ready to face some of the top-rated fighters in the heavyweight division.

While he has lost to the likes of Junior dos Santos, Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem and champion Fabricio Werdum, Hunt believes he would beat any of them in a rematch.

“I’d fight any of the top guys,” Hunt said. “I could rematch any of those guys – JDS, Stipe, the guy with the belt…Fabricio…I’ve never lost a rematch, so I’d like to rematch any one of those guys.”
