Rafael dos Anjos has reportedly broken his foot in training and has since withdrawn from his scheduled fight with Conor McGregor.
At this stage it is not known whether McGregor will remain in the main event at UFC 196 and collect his cheque against an opponent that has not been named yet or if the clash between Holly Holm and Miesha Tate will now take center stage.
In the immediate aftermath of the news breaking regarding dos Anjos’ injury, there was obvious interest from Donald Cerrone’s camp for him to step in as a replacement for the Brazilian however nothing has been confirmed just yet.
This is the second time McGregor has been left without an opponent after Jose Aldo withdrew from their initial fight last summer.
The UFC are expected to release an official statement on the matter in the very near future.
It is highly likely that McGregor will also release a statement of his own, don’t expect it to be as civil as that of the UFC’s though.
