UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum will defend his title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 198 on May 14 in Brazil.
Werdum, who was crowned champion after making Cain Velasquez submit at UFC 188 in June last year, was initially scheduled to face Velasquez in a rematch at UFC Fight Night 82 earlier this month, but that bout was cancelled after Velasquez withdrew with a back injury.
Miocic was named as Velasquez’s replacement, but Werdum then pulled out of fight due to a foot injury. The bout has now been rescheduled to be held at UFC 198.
The title fight will headline the event, with a bout between Ronaldo Souza and Vitor Belfort the co-headliner.
Werdum heads into his first title defence on a six-fight winning streak, while Miocic is unbeaten in his last two fights.
Other fights confirmed for UFC 198 include a welterweight match-up against Demian Maia and Matt Brown, along with a light heavyweight bout between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Patrick Cummins. A middleweight fight featuring Nate Marquardt and Thiago Santos has also been scheduled for the event.
