Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has tipped Rafael dos Anjos to beat Conor McGregor at UFC 196.
Prior to his arrest on felony hit-and-run charges, Jones was widely regarded as the best mixed martial arts fighter in the world and as one of the greatest fighters of all time. Whether that is still the case is another matter altogether. However, there are few who know the sport as well as Jones and so when he speaks people generally listen.
Commenting on the fight between McGregor and Dos Anjos, Jones said: “I’m a big fan of McGregor, I’m becoming a huge fan of RDS [Rafael dos Anjos]. Based on RDS’ performances, I think I’m going to go with him.
“I’m not rooting for either person, but If I had to put my money on someone, I’d put it on RDS.. RDA, I’ve been calling him RDS.”
Jones’ outlook on the fight has undoubtedly been influenced by the facile manner in which Dos Anjos disposed of Donald Cerrone, Jones’ training partner, in the main event of UFC on FOX 17 in Orlando last December.
“[Cerrone] is my teammate. I watched him prepare and I knew he was super prepared to become a world champion, and the way that fight went just showed me what level RDA is on. So if I had to put money on it, I think I’ll go RDA.”
