UFC chairman Dana White has said that a lightweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones will take place in April.
Jones is eagerly awaiting the chance to win back the title that he was stripped of last April after he was charged in a hit-and-run incident. Cormier, who was beaten by Jones in January 2015, beat off the challenge of Anthony Johnson for the vacant title, and defended it against Alexander Gustafsson in October.
While many of the details still need to be ironed out, White has confirmed that the rematch is set to take place in April.
“It’s probably going to happen in April,” White told FOX Sports. “I don’t have the date or the venue but April is looking like the month.”
According to reports, the UFC had hoped to hold the fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, but those plans were quashed when a judge upheld a ban against the sport in the state.
