Jon Jones has three fights in mind for 2016 as he makes his return to the Octagon.
The former UFC light-heavyweight champion was stripped of his title after he was arrested in April last year on charges of hit-and-run. Jones was suspended indefinitely by the UFC, but returned to the active roster in late October.
In a fan Q&A on Twitter, Jones said that he was planning on fighting three times this year, with two of the fights set to be rematches. Of his opponents, Jones said: “DC, Rumble, Gus.”
First and foremost, Jones wants to get his title back from Daniel Cormier (DC) who defeated Anthony Johnson for the belt after Jones was stripped of it. Jones beat Cormier in January 2015, in what was the eighth defence of his title. An announcement confirming the bout is expected in the near future.
Once he’s finished with Cormier, Jones plans to turn his attention to Johnson (Rumble), who looks set to be handed another title shot after making light work of Ryan Bader last weekend.
Last on Jones’ wish list is a match-up with Alexander Gustafsson who stretched Jones to his limit before the then-champion secured a unanimous decision victory at UFC 165. This appears the most unlikely of the three bouts, with Gustafsson 1-3 since losing to Jones, having since also gone down to both Cormier and Johnson.
