Anthony Johnson may have earned himself another title shot after needing just 86 seconds to beat Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Less than a year after losing his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout with Daniel Cormier, Johnson looks to have propelled himself into contention for another shot at the title after making light work of Bader one minute and 26 seconds into the first round.
Johnson came into the fight on the back of a knockout of Jimi Manuwa in September, while Bader was on a five-fight unbeaten run.
Bader looked to use his wrestling skills from the outset, but Johnson was all too ready for that tactic and was patient, waiting for his chance to turn the tables.
Inside the first round he moved into the mount, with Bader on the ground in the middle of the Octagon, the 31-year-old Johnson unloading punches on the head of Bader until he secured a knockout victory.
Johnson is now 5-1 since returning to the UFC as a light heavyweight, his loss to Cormier the lone defeat.
