UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson, who was meant to face Michael Johnson at UFC 197, will now instead be up against Khabib Nurmagomedov in April, according to media reports.
According to a picture and reference via Ferguson’s twitter account, he will no longer be facing Johnson after posting a picture of himself with a beer and sushi roll with a reference to Johnson not being able to fight.
“Hope For a Good Surgery & Speedy (Recovery),” he posted, mentioning Johnson’s Twitter handle.
Then later Ferguson made a post telling his fans to expect a big announcement.
MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani has confirmed that Nurmagomedov will make his return against Ferguson at UFC on FOX 19 in April. UFC officials have not officially announced the contest.
The Unbeaten Nurmagomedov (22-0) has missed nearly two years of fighting due to injury.
Nurmagomedov last fought on April 14, 2014, when he defeated current champion Rafael dos Anjos.
