Rafael Dos Anjos’ coach Rafael Cordeiro believes that the UFC lightweight champion will finish featherweight champion Conor McGregor “in a brutal way”.
McGregor ended Jose Aldo’s five-year reign as champion in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 on December 12 and recently decided to move up to the lightweight division in an attempt to capture both titles.
The Irishman and Dos Anjos are set to meet for a lightweight title fight at UFC 197 on March 5, but Cordeiro does not believe McGregor will last long in the Octagon with Dos Anjos.
“Rafael is really happy to ‘welcome' him in a brutal way to the lightweight division,” Cordeiro told Sherdog. “It's a fighter that we truly believe we can beat. He's coming from a lower division, and he can be sure that he'll face a strong champion who will not change his style.
“McGregor has already proven to be a great athlete, but we have five rounds to beat him and Rafael is coming in hungry to beat him, not only physically but spiritually, and to break his soul inside the Octagon.”
Dos Anjos was recently involved in his first title defence and looked very impressive as he knocked out Donald Cerrone in 66 seconds at UFC on Fox 17 on December 19.
Cordeiro now believes that Dos Anjos will finish off McGregor in the same way that he dispatched Cerrone.
“I bet Rafael will finish him in a brutal way, the same way he has finished his last fights,” he said.
