Singapore-based Brazilian fighter Leandro Ataides has vowed to win the One FC middleweight belt back after being defeated by Igor Svirid in just 17 seconds.
The result of the headline match at the One FC Battle of Lions event, which was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang on Friday night, was a major upset. Kazakhstan fighter Svirid was not the favourite going into the match, however he reportedly made the most of an early Ataides slip and went on to secure the victory.
Ataides, who is an instructor at the Evolve MMA gym in Singapore, was determined to win the belt back. Asia One quoted the Evolve MMA fighter saying: "This is the most disappointing fight in my life. This happens in a fight… when I slipped I wasn't sure if I could recover or not. It happened too quickly."
He added: "I am so sorry for my fans, my friends and my students tonight. I will never stop training, I will now train 10 times as hard and I will be back.
"I will take his belt. This belt has to stay in Singapore," he vowed.
