MMA legend and ONE FC vice president Rich Franklin says he can't wait to see Brandon Vera take on Igor Subora at the Warrior's Way event on 5 December.
The two heavyweights are not the headliners for the Mall of Asia Arena event, that honour goes to the bantamweight bout between champion Bibiano Fernandes and Korea's Dae Hwan Kim (pictured).
Franklin thinks Vera's slump in form towards the end of his UFC career is deceptive, and thinks the Fil-Am fighter still has plenty of gas in the tank.
He told Yahoo PH: "Dropping the ball in one fight or two fights takes you down the ranks pretty quickly. You'll be out of the championship picture but that really does not mean that you've gone down as a fighter.
"I came here with Brandon after we signed him. He seemed really calm and confident about fighting here in the Philippines and I believe he will rise to the occasion here."
In an interview with BusinessWorld, Franklin went into further detail about why he is specifically excited about the match between Subora (5-1-0) and Vera (12-7-0).
He said: "I like the Brandon and Igor matchup.
"They are big guys. On this side of the globe we don't have a deep pool of heavyweight fighters. Not just heavyweights but light heavyweights and even in the middleweight categories we don't have a ton of them. So anytime some of the bigger guys see action I get excited."
He added: "I'm gonna say that there is going to be a bit of feeling-out process in the first round and that something big is gonna happen in the second round.
"Both of these guys have heavy hands. Don't blink. Don't blink on this fight."
