Ortiz ‘disappointed’ he didn’t knock out Scott

Luis Ortiz says he is ‘disappointed’ he couldn’t knock out Malik Scott during their heavyweight fight in Monte Carlo.

Scott survived a number of knockdowns to see out the fight but Ortiz easily won on points to extend his unbeaten record to 26.

Ortiz scored 120-105, 120-106 and 119-106 on the judges’ cards and he admitted after the bout that he would have preferred to have beaten the American by knockout.

“Malik was running around the ring and made it hard to come and fight,” he said.

“Everybody comes to see a show. They want to see people fight and brawl, and it made it difficult for me.

“I’m a little disappointed because I would have liked to knock him out, but him running around made it hard. But it’s boxing, I won the fight, I’m happy.”

Ortiz is likely to appear on the Anthony Joshua undercard on December 10 at the Manchester Arena and the Cuban is looking forward to it.

“I’m ready,” said Ortiz. “If Eddie Hearn says he’s ready to put me on December 10, I’m ready to fight anybody.”
