Amir Khan has revealed that he has heard rumours that Floyd Mayweather is back in training for a comeback and says he is still keen on fighting the former five-division world champion.
Bolton-born Khan had hoped to fight him before he called it a day but that wasn’t to be as Mayweather retired in September 2015.
Khan had to settle instead for a fight with Saul Alverez – who knocked him out in the sixth round of their May bout – while a fight with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook never materialised.
But the Olympic silver medalist is still targetting a fight with either Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao
“I hear rumours Floyd is back in training.” said Khan.
“I still believe a fight between me and him would be very exciting and a massive event, and even though I lost against Canelo, there were a lot of positives to take away from that fight.
“The way I fought the first four or five rounds has given me the confidence to beat anyone out there.
“Manny and his team know where I am though as we get so close last time before they disappeared. I would be gutted if I don’t fight Pacquiao before he retires.”
There have also been rumours that Khan and Mayweather will come toe-to-toe with UFC star Conor McGregor in a cross-sport fight, but nothing has so far been confirmed.
“I don’t really know about moving to MMA,” Khan said of the speculation.
“I mean, if the fight comes up I would consider it as Conor is an unbelievable fighter. I’d love to test him in the boxing ring first as MMA will take a long time to get used to.
“Just the thought of getting the boxing world and MMA world together makes we want to do it even more as it will be massive!”
