Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard is backing Gennady Golovkin to come out on top against Kell Brook when the two collide in London on September 10.
Brook is stepping up from welterweight in a bid to win Golovkin's WBA, WBC and IBF world middleweight titles, and while Leonard has plenty of admiration for Brook he believes that GGG will prove to be just too good for the Englishman.
“Kell Brook doesn’t care about being the underdog against Triple G. He has a special talent, and he wants to show the world. But what he has to really do is backup his words. You can talk trash but you’ve got to back that [expletive] up," said Leonard.
Both fighters are confident of victory, having yet to taste defeat in their pro careers, but Leonard believes that Golovkin's extra power will probably be the difference maker.
“I’m leaning towards Triple G [winning]. Triple G is power. He throws incredible body shots that brings the hands down and that slows down the hands of a boxer. It’s going to take mental stability and spiritual stability to win,” added Leonard.
Despite his verdict, Leonard has called for 30-year-old Brook to prove everyone wrong come fight night: "Kell, you have to make everyone a liar. You know what? You have to prove us wrong. I did it against [Marvin] Hagler and Tommy Hearns. You’re in for a big day, buddy. Alright, do your stuff."
