Manchester fighter Scott Quigg is still hoping for a possible rematch with Carl Frampton and would happily turn down a fight with Leo Santa Cruz in order to get it.
The former WBA super-bantamweight champion is set to return to action in November, after he has fully recovered from the fractured jaw he suffered in his defeat to Northern Ireland’s Frampton back in February.
Frampton, nicknamed ‘The Jackal’, has now moved up to featherweight and will take on WBA world champion Santa Cruz on July 30.
Despite Quigg believing that the Mexican fighter will triumph, it’s redemption that he wants first and another opportunity to get the better of Frampton.
“I know what I want and what drives me and that is the one I want,” he told Sky Sports in an exclusive interview.
“Whether it’s the next fight, the one after or in the next four or five fights, everything I do now will work towards it.
“Frampton could lose to Santa Cruz – and I do believe he will get beaten – and Santa Cruz could offer me a fight but I would turn it down because I want to fight Frampton.
“That’s what I want to do and, until that is put right, that is my focus. I want to win a world title and make sure people want to see it again – and I will do whatever I have to do.”
