Celtics defeat Bucks despite Antetokounmpo heroics

Despite Giannis Antetokounmpo scoring 40 points for the Milwaukee Bucks, the Boston Celtics were 111-100 victors on Monday night.

Kyrie Irving, who scored 19 of his 32 points in the second half, Al Horford adding 20 and Jayson Tatum chipped in 17 points meaning the Celtics have won five of their last six.

The scorers for Milwaukee, it was a third 40-point so far this season for Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton nailed 19 while Eric Bledsoe had 18 points.

At one stage in the third quarter, Boston led by 20 but Milwaukee came charging back through Antetokounmpo who scored 16 points and cut Boston’s lead to 88-81 entering the fourth.

The Celtics got five straight points from Irving to get the lead back up to 12 with under a minute of play left to claim the victory.

The Brooklyn Nets travelled to Atlanta and downed the Hawks 110-90, thanks to a strong third quarter, with Caris LeVert scored a season-high 17 points, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson with 16 points.

For Atlanta, Dennis Schroder had 19 points and Kent Bazemore and DeAndre’ Bembry each had 13.

The Warriors were 125-115 winners in New Orleans against the Pelicans as Stephen Curry starred with 31 points but sprained his ankle late in the game as Golden State came back from 21 points down late in the first half, after a slow start for their fourth straight win.

Klay Thompson added 22 points and Kevin Durant and Draymond Green each had 19 for the Warriors.

In San Antonio, the Spurs rallied to beat the Detroit Pistons 96-93 as LaMarcus Aldridge getting 17 points and 10 rebounds.

For Detroit, who lost for the third straight game, Reggie Jackson nailed 27 points.

In Chicago, the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Bulls 113-91 for their 12th straight win with Dwyane Wade and Kevin Love both getting 24 points while LeBron James had 23.

The Jazz were 116-69 winners against the Washington Wizards in Utah thanks to a big night from Alec Burks with 27 points for his third straight game with 20 or more in a sixth straight win.

The Indiana Pacers won at home beating the New York Knicks 115-97 as Thaddeus Young scored 20 points, Bojan Bogdanovic added 19 points and Victor Oladipo added 16 for the Pacers.

The Suns won on the road defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 115-101 as Devin Booker scored 46 points and TJ Warren added 25.

Memphis Grizzlies won 95-92 at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves as Marc Gasol scored 21 points, Tyreke Evans added 16 with two key free throws with 12.7 seconds left to snap an 11 game losing streak.

In Charlotte, the Hornets snapped a four-game losing streak when they overcame Orlando Magic 104-94. Orlando Magic

Returning to action from a shoulder injury, Kemba Walker had 29 points and was the star of the night for the Hornets to became the first player in franchise history with 200 career 20-point games.

In Dallas, the Mavericks cruised past the Denver Nuggets 122-105 as Harrison Barnes scored 22 points, Dennis Smith Jr. added 20 in a comfortable win.
