NBA Wrap: Harden steers Rockets to Hornets win

James Harden came away with 27 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, as the Houston Rockets narrowly missed out on their three-point record against the Charlotte Hornets.

The Rockets sank 22 of 57 three-point attempts in the 109-93 win – finishing just short of their regular season record of 24.

Eric Gordon finished with six from 16 attempts, while Ryan Anderson had six from 15.

Evan Fournier banked 25 points as the Orlando Magic inflicted the first loss of the season on the San Antonio Spurs.

Fournier made 10 of 12 shots – including all four of his three-point attempts – in the 114-87 win.

It was a third win on the spin for the Magic, who were also helped by significant contributions from Jonathon Simmons (17 points), Aaron Gordon (16 points) and Nikolai Vucevic (15 points).

Nikola Jokic recorded a double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds, as the Denver Nuggets beat the Atlanta Hawks 105-100.

Will Barton and Gary Harris also grabbed 18-point hauls as the Nuggets ended a six-year wait for a win in Atlanta.

Kristaps Porzingis helped the New York Knicks to their first win of the season after he banked 30 points and nine rebounds in a 107-86 success against the Brooklyn Nets.

Rookie guard Frank Ntilikina grabbed his first NBA points in a surprisingly strong defensive effort from the Knicks, who were the last team in the league to grab their first win.

Jimmy Butler again showed his importance for the Minnesota Timberwolves after a 25-point show in a 119-16 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

But while Butler was influential at both ends of the court, Karl-Anthony Towns was Minnesota’s top scorer after finishing with 33 points and 19 rebounds. He also posted a season-high of four blocks in defence.

Lonzo Ball’s shooting problems for the Los Angeles Lakers continued after he came away with just five points in a 101-92 loss to the Toronto Raptors.

The Lakers had held a 17-point advantage at half-time, but DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors’ comeback with 24 points.

Bradley Beal and Draymond Green were both ejected for a tussle in the Golden State Warriors’ 120-117 win over the Washington Wizards.

Kevin Durant (31 points), Stephen Curry (20) and Klay Thompson (18) secured the win for Golden State.
