The 20-year-old forward has been at the center of trade rumors involving the Celtics and Pelicans star Anthony Davis. He could be open to the move, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said on a recent podcast appearance.
MacMahon said on ESPN’s Hoop Collective:
It’s gossip, but the gossip is Jayson Tatum wouldn’t mind. Jayson Tatum wouldn’t mind if he’s shipped to New Orleans and has a chance to be the face of the franchise somewhere. Because he’s not going to get that opportunity in Boston, at least not in the immediate future.
The second-year forward is averaging 16.4 points and 6.3 rebounds in 31.1 minutes per game this season. He’s shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from 3-point range.
Meanwhile, Davis will not sign an extension with New Orleans and wants to be traded, agent Rich Paul told ESPN in late January. The Lakers engaged in trade talks with the Pelicans about Davis before the deadline. But, New Orleans ultimately decided not to move him.
The Celtics are “determined” to acquire the 25-year-old star this summer, according to an earlier report from ESPN. They could not deal for Davis during the season because of the “Rose Rule.”
