Bird, a 6-6 shooting guard, has not played in a game this season for the Celtics and has pending criminal charges hanging above his head stemming from an incident in 2018 in which he is charged with assault and battery, strangulation and kidnapping.
The Boston Globe reported Wednesday the Celtics were trying to move Bird along with cash to another team to open up a roster spot.
The Hawks will waive Bird once the trade is finalized, according to The Athletic.
