Instant internet sensation and Ginebra fanatic Maria Gracia Gonzales-Cadiz got a chance to watch the PBA’s most popular squad team in practice on World Balance, the team’s official apparel provider Thursday at the Upper Deck gym in Pasig.
Cadiz, who just a few days ago, became an internet sensation for singing her own updated version of Gary Granda’s classic hit “Kapag Nananalo ang Ginebra”, admitted it was her first time to get up close with the Kings.
“Sabi ko nga sa pinsan ko na ‘paki sampal mo nga ako,’ kasi hindi ko talaga expected na ma-meet ko sila tapos hindi ko alam na pupunta ako ngayon dito, so nakakatuwa,” Gonzales-Cadiz said as she took selfies with Ginebra players after practice.
The 26-year-old Gonzales-Cadiz had a chance to briefly interact with coach Tim Cone as well as have a photo with Ginebra rookie sensation Scottie Thompson.
The long-time Ginebra fan though, believes her viral video after the Kings’ Game 2 win on Sunday was in no way, a jinx in the Kings’ bid to end their eight-year title drought.
“Hindi ako naniniwala sa jinx eh. It’s all blessings, katulad ng nangyari sa akin,” said the bubbly Cadiz.
“Paano naman siya maji-jinx kasi kung ako tatanungin mo? The first song was about Game 2, so nung pinanood ko yung laro, dun lang naman ako kumuha ng lyrics eh, so it’s not about the championship, although nagpe-pray ako, hopeful as a Ginebra fan na mag-champion sila,” she continued.
Despite Ginebra’s 107-103 loss on Game 3, Gonzales-Cadiz is confident that her favorite PBA team can bounce back strong and equalize the series at 2-2.- Jason Mercene
