The Philadelphia 76ers have been dealt a huge blow after rookie Ben Simmons was diagnosed with a broken bone in his right foot.
Simmons, who was picked first in this year’s NBA draft, suffered the injury during his team’s final training camp scrimmage at Stockton University in New Jersey.
Simmons underwent X-rays and an MRI scan after rolling his ankle and it revealed a fractured fifth metatarsal bone.
While the Sixers have yet to confirm how long Simmons will be out of action for, injuries similar to the one the 20-year-old has requires surgery and usually takes approximately eight weeks to heal.
With the start of the season less than a month away, if Simmons is forced to go under the knife, it is highly likely that he will miss the first month or two of 2016/17 campaign.
