Head coach Ariel Vanguardia disclosed the impending offseason buildup shortly after the Fuel Masters ended their semifinals hope with a 136-124 loss to top seed TNT on Saturday in the PBA Governors Cup playoffs.
“We’ll definitely make line-up changes. I told the boys huwag sila magulat if may mga trades right before the draft,” said Vanguardia.
“Right now, we have a core that we want to keep but di nila alam kung sino yun. Pero we’re open also to discuss with other teams yung mga marketable,” he added.
The first-year coach bared that Phoenix management is currently in talks with other teams for possible trades before the 2016 PBA Rookie draft which will be held on October 30.
“There are discussions right now with other teams na hopefully we will able to close,” he said.
Vanguardia said their decision to push for possible trades is part of their quest to be able to complete head on against established teams in the league.
“We tried (to win this conference), but we just couldn’t handle the elite teams. Either immature pa yung team o kumuha ka pa ng additional weapons,” he said.
Already bracing for the All-Filipino conference next season, Vanguardia’s wish list includes a veteran point guard, and a handful of big man that can be help them inside the paint.
“I want to form the team that will fit in the system,” said Vanguardia. – Jason Mercene
