Ace wingman Jeron Teng finished what prized import Ben Mbala started as powerhouse La Salle asserted its might over upstart Adamson on Saturday 91-75 to sustain its dominant start in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament at The Mall of Asia Arena.
With the 6-foot-7 Mbala slowed down by foul woes after picking up his fourth personal foul late in the third canto, the 6-foot-2 Teng took charge offensively anew as he unloaded nine of his 15 points in the stretch, enabling the Green Archers to keep the Soaring Falcons at bay.
La Salle streaked to its fifth straight victory, tightened its grip on the solo leadership while stopping the two-game winning streak of Adamson, which dropped to 3-2.
Mbala tallied his fifth straight double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds while getting enough lift from the likes of Teng, rookies Aljun Melecio, Justine Baltazar and veteran guard Kib Montalbo in the second half. – By Jerome Lagunzad
